Link Hopping to Find the Perfect Blueberry Tart/Pie

http://www.cannellevanille.com
Oh the wonders of link hopping...

While looking for a recipe for blueberries, I found this gorgeous website, above! I ♥ it!
That tart looked gorgeous, as well. Following the link for the recipe, Aww, disappointed... I was out of yogurt. Which sent me looking for a substitute...

OK, kick in early morning thinking, with the brain on very little coffee helping it along...Risotta!!! So I searched......But all the pictures I found were not very appealing.
So, I came up with the idea of a custard tart...Bingo! Well, almost...It was a pie, but it definitely looked like what I was looking for!

http://lisaiscooking.blogspot.com
Yet another gem of a website!!! It looked exactly as I had envisioned...While I have a tried and true custard recipe, I wanted one that was a bit firmer for the tart/pie---and this looked like a winner! But...no recipe, only another link to the original.

Martha Stewart
At last...ahhhh!

But wait!!!

Look what else I found!!!

This: Flatbreads with Winter Squash, Cremini, and Camembert

And this:  Tuscan Squash Pie

Oooo, ahhhh!

And curiosity got the best of me, when I kept seeing "CSA" on this website....Hmmm! Soooo, I searched and found THIS

Wow, now I'm really rolling....I had been searching for something about starting something like a Farmer's "Co-op" for a long time! No, not a new idea...It's one that's been around forever. But what use to be a simple way/place to buy or trade eggs, fruits, vegetables, etc. has become a modern day craft-artisan set-up. And usually big $$$...I wanted something simple, affordable, old-timey...and this looks like it could be that. May be another one of my dead-end dreams...I'm only one person!!! And it looks like it might take a lot of hands-on help to do something like this, not to mention a little moolah, and some elbow grease! But I'm going to keep investigating and see what I can come up with!

See what treasures you can find, link hopping!!! Love it! ♥

Homegrown Veggies

Vegetables from my garden!
Woohoo!
Zucchini, tomatoes, green beans, english peas, onions, basil, salt and pepper, and a little oil. Cover, and let simmer til desired tenderness. I can't make up my mind what to serve it over---rice or pasta??? Hmm

Can we honestly still say this?

Friends, the Retailers of America have just celebrated a half century of progress, a half century of public service and also just completed a week of outstanding cooperation with American businessmen to celebrate this significant milestone. Everyone of us can be proud of the great material strides taken in the last several decades to double our output for every hour we work, and increase our annual income. We've enjoyed a steadily rising standard of living as a nation, and we've preserved all of our precious hard-won freedoms. Yes, our American economic system has brought greater material means for happiness to more people than any other system the world has ever known. So, congratulations to the Retailers of America, for helping to boost the good things in our American way of life. Let's remember, that the better we all produce, the better we all live.

Looks Like a Winner!

Developed for those who love the taste of bacon, but do not want to eat pork, the beef brisket is cured in a secret-recipe salt and sugar brine, and then smoked with famed Washington State applewood. Can't wait to try it out....Ahhhh, you know how us Southerner's just love bacon!!! And those beloved grits!!!

Nevermind, this could get rather complicated.

Best Little Bread-Baker

Let me tell you about my granddaughter!!! :P She has become one of the best bread-baker's that I know! She makes the bread for Shabbat every Friday, and we had the pleasure of eating with them a couple of weeks ago, and I was VERY impressed!!! She is 16, and has learned a lot in the past couple of years! Anyway...back to the bread---it was moist and baked to a golden brown perfection. Braided bread (7 braids!!!), topped with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, and looked and tasted just scrumptious! I should have taken a picture!

Oh well...

I have a confession to make, and that is, I cook more than I clean! :o Is that such a terrible thing? I do have a routine... what hasn't been turned upside down by recent changes in our lifestyle! Such as only using the clothesline to dry clothes, because the dryer needs repair. Also, we're remodeling again... : It's amazing how little changes can affect a person's routine! Especially when they're a bit OCD. hmm That said, I'm determined to be more organized, and get more things done than I have lately. It's really getting to me, that I can't go through my little routines in my housecleaning. I guess I need to re-group, and re-think how it needs to be done! Wish me luck, give me a hug, or better yet, come over and give me a hand!!!

I'll pay you!!!! :)

It's been a busy day! Company, cooking, cleaning, and all sorts of things in-between! Time for a little "pampering", and a cup of Sleepytime tea....Ahhh!

A Day Like Today...

Muggy, cloudy, dreary, trials, tribulation, and yet---blessings! I can always find something to be thankful for if I look hard enough! And I'm sure you can too!

Thing's I'm thinking about and doing...You'll have to guess which is which!

Gathering kindling and splitting firewood.
Picking up pecans. Raking leaves.
1920's Boy Cuts for women.
Edwardian, Victorian, and early 20th-century clothing and aprons.
Homemade brooms.
Wood-stove blacking.
Building an outdoor clay oven.
Having this mindset, and wondering how canned tuna fish will fit in...Somehow roasted pheasant seems more fitting.

Creating a Family Tree

What started out as simply wanting to create a family tree, for myself, my children and grandchildren---has become an obsession. I've been researching since 1977 when I was pregnant with my first child. I "interviewed" my grandmother, Fannie Louise Parker that year and recorded it on a cassette tape, and wrote it all down in the baby book. And then...I got a WebTV in 2003, and that really started the ball rolling! If this had been a paying job---I would be rich from the long hours, late nights, and loss of sleep. It is worth it to find just a tid-bit of information, new cousins, and old family photos from distant relatives who are so generous. But alas, this is ALL still a works in progress!

Another Southern Favorite

Known as the house wine, here in the South! We make at least a gallon and a half of it everyday...Always Southern, and that to me means sweet, iced, and delicious!

Luzianne is the best! I've tried the cheaper brands but they just don't cut it. I'd rather pay a little more and have great-tasting tea! And it is satisfying to know it comes from the South. Always buy local when you can!

8 O'Clock Coffee

I absolutely love 8 O'Clock Coffee....Flavorful, aromatic, and smooth!!! But...there's always a BUT! lol The price has gone ridiculously HIGH!!! And they changed the packaging, (I loved the old red design)! Let's just say I'm not a happy camper!!! :/ But, I still love it!!!

The first five tips are what I found in an an old book of mine called "The Art Of Good Living", by Svevo Brooks.
Do something useful with your hands every day:
a. Bake bread
b. Hang out clothes
c. Garden
d. Sew
e. Draw a picture
I could go even farther to say:
f. Wash dishes by hand.
g. Clean and scrub pots and pans.
h. Clean and scrub bathroom and floors.
i. Make beds.
j. Sweep.
k. Vacuum.
l. Mop floors, wring mop with hands.
m. Hand wash delicates.
n. Peel, slice, chop food by hand.
o. Mix bread, cake and cookie batter by hand.
p. Polish furniture with real beeswax wax polish, by hand.
q. Iron clothes.
r. Rub your husband's back.
s. Scrub your husband's back.
t. Grind coffee by hand.
u. Wash your child's hair.
v. Write a letter.
w. Pat someone's shoulder.
x. Bandage a boo-boo on your child's knee.
y. Wipe away your child's tears.
z. Apply vapor rub to the back and chest for someone who is sick and tuck them in bed.
Now there...Just think about all the things we do with an appliance, a machine, an instrument, an electronic device and think how far we have gotten away from using our hands!
